| My
goal in painting a portrait, besides creating a work of artistic
merit, is to capture a moment that will intrigue the viewer both
now and hundreds of years from now and to bring the subject’s
personality to life on the canvas.
I view this process as a collaborative effort
between myself, the subject, and the person who commissioned the
work. I put a great deal of effort into the beginning stages of
each painting getting to know the subject themselves, whenever possible.
The more I know about the subject, the more their personality will
show through in the final piece.
I also like to discuss where the portrait might
hang, and if possible, see the setting, as these factors may help
determine size and some color choices.
I use photographic references, which I take using
a digital camera either in my studio, at a remote location, or at
the client’s home. From the initial photoshoot, I compile
a group of the best shots for review by the client before proceeding.
In some cases where multiple people or children are involved, I
can photo manipulate images so that the best shot of all involved
are used in the final piece. I do not move forward until you and
I are completely happy with this step. A final oil portrait is only
as good as this step will allow.
Once size and image are decided, I move into the
painting stage. This stage takes a minimum of two weeks, sometimes
longer, depending on complexity and dry time. I use fine oil paints
and archival linen canvas to ensure a finished piece of artwork
that will last lifetimes.
Prices begin at $2500 for a 16” x 20”,
depending on complexity.
Prices increase by $500 for each additional subject in the painting.
A nonrefundable deposit of 40% is due at the first
interview of the subject/subjects and the balance plus tax is collected
once the painting is delivered to and accepted by the client.
Included in the price of every painting is the
cost for a professional digital image of the portrait, which I use
for my records. As an added service, you may purchase a limited
edition Giclee print or series of prints of your piece which will
be signed and numbered. These make great gifts for family members.
Prices vary by size and quantity. |
